What an ordeal...
It came down to the last minute.
This is for my parents' tourist visa to the U.S.All was well in the process when it sudeenly occured to me on the day of their visa interview to check if they had all the documents.Upon checkin we discovered that they didn't have the i134 - affidavit of financial support document from me.
I had to rush to my office at 10pm yesterday and then find a notary from craigslist.Wow..Craigslist - the saviour of the desi masses in the U.S That needs a separate post.
Anyways coming back to the visa confusion. So I got the necessary document and I scanned and sent it through to India. My MIL got a print out of it and was waiting to recieve a fax of the same. But then the fax machine there was not receiving whatever I was sending from here.
Finally we decided to just go with the photocopy of the document.
My parents seemed to be cool about the entire issue.Only my mom was worried about all the questions that she was anticipating the Visa officer to throw at her.My father had been giving her quickfire question answer sessions for the past 1 week.I could imagine my mom rehearsing her answers such as " I am visiting my son in Austin.I will visit places like califourniyaaa....huuuuston . I am a hosuwife..oops no homemaker..etc" like the anecdotal "Beam boy Beam boy ...andhe locker la irukara aaaru latchatha..."!I felt very sorry for her but then the Visa officer didn't ask a single question which came as a relief to everybody.
Anyways quite a memorable event that is worth jotting down!Hope they get a 10yr multiple entry visa so that they don't have to face such a thing again atleast for the next 10 years!
